Mentoring Circles Ignites the Leader Within:

Mentoring Circles, pioneered by The Mentoring Company™, is a group mentoring model. The focus of Mentoring Circles is to strengthen leadership performance and best business practices. The group exchanges experiences, challenges, and opportunities for the purpose of mobilizing people and creating solutions. Circles enhance self-confidence, communication skills, leadership practices, and increase employees' commitment to the organization. The Mentoring Company’s leadership development methodology is unique, using storytelling about real-time experiences to foster authentic leadership.

Mentoring Circles methodology has its foundation in the power of the story. Mentoring, like leadership, is a process of influencing others. There is no tool more powerful for influencing than a story. A mentoring story is a narrative account of a person’s experiences that let others know about the mentor’s challenges, issues, frustrations and opportunities, what the mentor did and felt, together with the outcomes and key learnings. A mentoring story makes learning come alive because it is rich with personal experiences and conveys leadership performance to enable listeners to learn from the experiences of the mentor. Stories invite the circle participants to creatively reframe their own dilemmas and participate in a reflective thinking process to make sense of their own challenges, issues and/or opportunities. Norms and habits of organizational culture are passed down through stories.

Mentoring Circles consist of fifteen persons, a catalyst mentor from your organization and a facilitator from The Mentoring Company™. Circles meet for two-hours every other week for twelve to fifteen sessions. Specific guidelines ensure that effective mentoring occurs, and that the group does not slip into a gripe session, therapy group, intellectual brain storming assembly or an advice-giving bunch. Rather, the fine art of mentoring is learned by each person in the group.

Mentoring Circles outshines traditional one on one mentoring. Group mentoring generates many different perspectives rather than a single perspective. Group mentoring shares the talent of all and de-emphasizes hierarchy. Group mentoring enhances the leadership learning of a group of persons rather than the learning of just one. Mentoring Circles increases people's abilities to be responsive and bring about change. Group mentoring kindles the power of we.

Appreciative Inquiry Accelerates Change

Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is a form of organizational study, grounded in research that seeks to identify and energize vital resources of an organization. AI is an approach to change that guides people and organizations to focus on what already works, while igniting the collective imagination around what is possible. AI invites people to engage in the change they want to be a part of their organization, in building the kinds of organizations they want to be a part of. The key to AI is found in the words themselves. Appreciative creates focus by recognizing the best in people and the world around us, as it invites us to acknowledge past and present strengths, successes, and potentials. Inquiry provides the method through which we ask questions, study the answers, and explore future possibilities.
